Mouse Shoulder

You might be wondering what is this thing mouse shoulder. Well it’s probably more important and prevalent than carpal tunnel syndrome. In fact it probably is one of the contributors to it. The use of the standard mouse leads to this phenomenon. As people are rolling their mouse along the surface they are unwittingly using their shoulder as well as their neck to perform this movement. Over time the shoulder muscles on the back of the shoulder become overused and irritated. Additionally there are nerves that travel through the back of the shoulder that feed directly into the hand, and this can mimic exactly the symptoms of carpal tunnel as well as nerve pain from the neck. This is often an overlooked and under-diagnosed problem. Often a patient will undergo carpal tunnel surgery without success or be told their neck needs surgery when the shoulder is the problem.
