Office Ergonomics

Chair

  • Back should come up to middle or top of shoulder blade.
  • Seat depth should not exceed ¾ of the length of the thigh
  • Arm rests should be adjustable up and down
  • Seat bottom should adjust in the pitch
  • Seat back should have a locking and or rocking tilt feature
  • Chair height to be adjustable

Computer station

  • Key board tray with slide out tray for mouse left or right
  • Gel wrist rests
  • Stationary mouse
  • Screen directly in front of user not at an angle and at eye or below eye level.
  • Foot rest if feet are not resting flat on ground.
  • Document Holder on screen
  • Update eye prescription if not done in a year.
  • Ergonomically designed key board

Avoid

  • Tucking feet under chair
  • Keeping arms outstretched unsupported

Consider

  • Voice recognition software if heavy document user.
  • Sit stand work station (fixed or wheeled)
  • External key board and mouse if using lap top in office.
  • Headset or ear piece if heavy phone user.
  • Dynamic stability disc to reduce trauma to lower back
